You've probably seen here or other places that the Democrat's have proposed the largest tax increase in American history. If this becomes law, the average taxpayer will face a hike of about $3,035. But for some Dem's that's not enough. The Democratic Progressive Caucus thinks Americans should be paying paying about 2.5 times that amount. The Congressional Black Caucus thinks Americans should be playing 2 times that amount.

It's not even a question of if the Democrats will raise taxes anymore, it's a question of how much...

The Republicans Are Responsible?
animalgirl,

Two points. Firstly, it's hard to blame the AMT on Republicans when it was created by government to soak people who had a large amount of deductible income. Remember, the GOP is the party of lower taxes, not class warfare. And secondly, in 2004, I seem to remember Mr. Kerry saying that he wanted to "roll back" (raise) taxes on those making about a certain point, and in addition, the Democrat's main proposal for saving Social Security has been raising the cap well above the high $90K's, which would result in a massive tax increase for the "middle class" which in your example includes people making up to 500K a year. The fact is, people ARE going to be socked with a massive tax increase in the near future, but you can't blame it on the President and/or the GOP congress. Look in the mirror...

Its Really Very Simple
ELIMINATE ALL UN-CONSTITUTIONAL SPENDING. Now that would eliminate over 5000 federal wealth reapportionment programs and it will hurt. But in the end, would would have to CUT TAXES so that the Federal Government couldnt be accused of hording more income than it needs.

Tea Party anyone?
I believe that most, if not all, thinking Americans have had it with taxes and supporting those who do not and/or will not support themselves. I have had it with the NEA, PBS, NPR, HUD, Welfare, Foodstamps, and every other federal program. The governement is authorized by the constitution to collect taxes to provide for the common defense. That is pretty much it. Instead we have tax money going to planned parenthood?!? This is a GD disgrace and we do nothing about it. What's worse is that we have a group of liberals suffereing from white guilt who propose that we pay more tax. Last year, I paid more in tax than I made my first year out of college. I could essentially support another family (I am sure I am) while at the same time, the Dems are proposing that I not be able to write off my over $1000 per month property tax bill which goes to fund the already over funded, underperforming public schools who do nothing but try to pass referendum after referendum to raise taxes to give them more money to squander. Why do my tax dollars pay for before and after school care in my district? I don't use them. Why do my tax dollars pay for other kids lunches? Catholic schools outperform public schools regularly on less than HALF of the per student $$.

The people who pat the most tax use the least amount of the resouces funded by those taxes. Taxes are not intended to be wealth redistribution tools but that is exactly what they have become. It is socialism in disguise. Why is out government using tax money to guarentee student loans, mortgages, business loans, etc.? They are not or at least, should not, be in that business.

Make all the excuses you want. I have come from nothing and never used ONE government service. Even after I was laid off during the .COM bust (thank you Clinton) I would not evan take unemployment although I had already paid for it. My wife and I have always ensured there was a parent at home for our kids even when I had to work two weekday and one weekend job to make it happen. Never used day care, never will. Some in this country have become weak.

The Boston Tea Party was in response to a 1% tax increase. That's the spirit this country was founded on. We have lost that along the way. It is very sad. We need that spirit back before we trade everything in for a government that can take care of all of our needs.

You're such a liberal
Hey hosekuervo

That is the only thing tax should be used for. If we cut all of the other Federal programs (handouts) we have more than enough money to defend this country and its allies.

Think before you speak hosekuervo
I get a bill from Waste Management for my garbage collection. That is not funded by federal dollars. Fire Department is funded by my property tax, as are police. The National Guard is providing for "the comon defense" and therefore constitutionally acceptable. as far as border patrol, let the Minute Men have at it.

hosekuervo, bigmoney is right
The war in Iraq IS ONE OF THE VERY FEW THINGS our FEDERAL GOVERNMENT should be spending FEDERAL tax dollars on. The remaining items would include the finances necessary to run the three branches of the federal government and international trade and relations. The rest of the programs the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FUNDS through OUR taxes ARE UNCONSTITUIONAL.

To animalgirl
Our correspondents are probably right that they don't use federal services like driving on the interstate highway system---they've never been out of the hills & hollers. And who among them needs Social Security...they fund their old age selling moonshine and polecat pelts.
