Berkley is not the disease; it is a symptom. When a Republic allows open Sedition and traitorous acts by citizens known to express Communist beliefs; Berkley's begin to cough up their un-American phlegm. Others of like mind (most recently several cities) become emboldened and strike out on their own to direct the course of National events, such as, voting to impeach a duly elected President and Vice President. That authority rests solely with the House of Representatives and National tolerance of a city trying to usurp that Constitutional power of a Major branch of government should lead to swift and costly reprisals. Sadly, nothing will be done but there will be a litany of excuses for non-action. |

If the Semper Fi Act is rescinded - the only lesson learned by those who would dishonor the heroes serving in our armed forces is that a hollow apology can divert any economic penalty for their offensive behavior.
The City Council CHOSE to give special permits to Code-Pink - allowing them to park directly in front of the recruiting station and special permits to continue their public protest (regardless of the harm done to neighboring businesses).
As long as the City Council publicly supports Code-Pink's efforts to harrass our military recruiters - the Semper Fi Act should be passed! |
|
Congressman,
I hope the Semper Fi Act is a success, and I'm grateful you introduced it in the house.
However, I do think the point you tried to make above would have been stronger had you compared Marines with apple pie rather than use the hamburger meat analogy. |

I contacted my Senator about this. I think it should be made a perpetual rule. Also add Toledo Ohio to the list, since they evicted a Marine excercise--or go after the mayor and maybe they will get the picture. Harassment, even, of our military should be made sedition and treason, which it is. Code Pink certainly crosses the line. They need consequences. Semper Fi!!!!!! |

This makes me want even more a split of California to North and South. I'm so disgusted with anything that comes out of that part of my almost-native state. These un-Americans and their ilk have ruined half the state. Keep the contamination confined. Who in their right conscience would send their child to the university in Berkeley? I'd rather let mine go into the adders' den. More power to the Semper Fi Act! |

As a Marine Vet, I cannot understand why so many Americans are still hateful towards the military. We have put our lives on the line time and time again for their freedom. We would like support from the home front with the patriotism our country had during WWII. Fat Chance with people like these. There will be wars forever when there are countries who look at the world as who is bigger and badder then the U.S.A instead of how can we make everyone free, and they are going to try us.

|
Whats sad is that they accept Illegals in their city but hate the American Military. They are still stuck in the 60 and 70.
What I dont understand is that the Military is a job. The President is the one who controls the Military not vice-verse. So I say if they want that to change then they need to challenge the Constitution.
Leave the Military alone. One day you will need then and they might REFUSE. Could you see a COO in America, my god this country would fall. |

As a former Marine, the story about the Marine Recruiters and their treatment by the Berkeley City Council angers me. However enacting a new law (Semper Fi Act), I believe is not the answer. Is there not an Federal law that saids that no one can hinder the recruitment at a recruiting depot? And if there is , if the Fed's won't enforce that law then how are you going to get them to enforce the Semper Fi Act? Look I don't like what this little small minded council is doing. But the Fed's should step in and do their jobs. Of course if they were to do their jobs more often the United States wouldn't have 20 million illegal immigrates here. I guest what I am saying is, make the federal government enforce the laws that are already on the books. |

|
Pretty simple solution really. If the Guard can be used to desegregate schools they can sure as hell be used to allow interested Americans access to the recruiting station. |
|
Lefties, no surprise. I hope the SemperFi Act covers all recruiters. Those sorry sacks of ________ will accept all manner of immorality, and illegal aliens and give them shelter, but the very people (citizens) who are willing to lay everything on the line they insult and shun. Typical Libs. |
|
...is called for.
I presume that the Marine Corps Recruiting Office in Berkeley is located in a strip mall setting. Therefore, I propose that a group of "patriots" rent an office unit, as close to the MCRO as possible, as an ersatz recruiting office for "Al Qaeda", complete with Arab costume, ski masks and blaring Arab music. All in the name of farce, of course. Let the peace minded members of the City Council of Berkeley contemplate the differences between the US Marines and Al Qeada. |

This type of display for civic duty remains short sighted and self centric no matter where it shows it back side. As you feel your citizens are too inept to walk through life making the decisions that are right for them. Americans should thank you in that you are making those decisions for us while you wave the flag of freedom and tell us what we should and should not like. As the old saying goes, you can not know who you are until you know were you come from so scream of freedom, of which you personally did nothing for, while despising the very one that gave you such freedom to scream. Go ahead and lye in the hand that protects you and your freedom for it is strong enough to hold even the misguided. |

an e-mail to the Berkeley city clerk stating that the next earthquake that hits their area - the National Guard can't be bothered. What a bunch of lunatics. |

Dear Congressman, the University of California at Berkeley is not under the jurisdiction of the city of Berkeley. The UC Berkeley chancellor has strongly denounced the action of the Berkeley city council against the Marine recruiting center. Yet of the money to be revoked nearly $1 million comes out of the Matsui center of the university. It doesn't make sense to punish the university or a part of the university for the actions of the city council over which it has not control. It would make just as much sense for Congress to revoke earmarks of money for your district since, like UC Berkeley, your district is also in the state of California. It doesn't make sense to punish a state institution for the actions of a city. |
|
that "...it doesn't make sense to punish the university [UC Berkeley]...."
What does not make sense is to send any tax dollars from all Americans to support the project & events of these leftists who live, work & elect leftists who are card-carrying members of the "Blame America First Crowd," to quote the late great Amb. Jeanne Kirkpatrick. The Berkeley incident is simply the most recent outrageous celebratory outburst of the left.
Just who are these voters who elect & re-elect these leftists who vote AGAINST the Patriot Act; oppose Defense of Marriage Act; support partial-birth abortion, AKA infanticide? They are leftists who support leftists in the U.S. Congress. Matsui won her deceased husband's seat with +70% of the vote. She continues her husband's liberal voting record. Both earned a "0" rating from the ACU [American Conservative Union].
The Berkeley community is not a 'diverse' community, as the Berkeley City Council proclaims. Quite to the contrary: they are lock-step, group-think conformists of the hard left in America.
The USMC represents diversity within that community. They will not tolerate diversity; they enforce their leftist ideology by punishing those with whom they disagree. So much for 'diversity.'
Cut them off. If Matsui wants earmarks for flood control along the Sacramento River, let her supporters raise their local taxes to carry out improvements.
Support the U.S. Marine Corps, not leftists who would destroy America. |

Even if you cannot get a vote on the Semper Fi act from the dems, I always want the Marines at the front of our battle lines and that especially includes Berkeley. Give our troops combat pay for being there!!! |

Some people just don't get the point. If your rationale for cutting of funds to Berkeley and all entities in Berkeley is the fact that the city of Berkeley told the Marine recruiting center it is unwelcome in the town (although I believe this statement was subsequently revoked) and allows a free parking on Wednesdays to Code Pink in front of the center, then why punish the university, which has an ROTC program, which allows military recruiting, and whose chancellor has condemned the action of the Berkeley city council? By the way the Berkeley College Republicans group has also protested the university being punished for the actions of the city. The fact is, this is a bad bill, which won't be passed, but it will make for some good demagogery in the general election, like campaigning for amendments to ban flag burning or gay marriages, campaigns which occur every four years and are then dropped. In the meantime there has been much stereotyping of Berkeley and of the university, beginning with the absurd notion that Berkeley school kids are eating exotic items off the menu of the Chez Panisse restaurant. I opposed the action of the city council, but I also believe this legislation is a case of overkill, which if passed would hurt many people, but not those directly responsible, members of the City Council and Code Pink. And by the way, I walked by the Marine Recruiting Center yesterday, it was open and seemed to be doing fine, with only two demonstrators outside, one for the center and one opposed. |
