The latest press reports are indicating that Speaker Pelosi has backed down from a proposal to eliminate all earmarks in the omnibus spending package that she plans to move to the floor by the end of the week.

Democratic leaders believe that earmarks are the last form of spending that should be cut. I believe that earmarks are currently the first form of spending that we should cut in the omnibus spending package.

The point here is that the earmark culture still commands power in Washington.  Speaker Pelosi is clearly signaling that she is willing to cut whatever is necessary in order to maintain earmarks.

Of Course the Libs Want their Pork
I'm glad this thing is being pushed to expose the Dems as a bunch of hypocrites based on the lies they told to get elected last year.I heard one earmark was for another study on poverty. Government spending like this is how Dem supporters get rich. They get money for research which is a huge rat hole of money and busy work for researchers. They want to buy more land for "open space" usually some Dem crony with some worthless land to get rid of.Finally the more money government spends the more bureaucrats they need to hire who guess what, vote 90% for the Dems.

LIARS
Now if this dont beat all.

We were duped into thinking that the NEW DEM LED CONGRESS in town was a different one than the REPS.

SAME GAME JUST ANOTHER TEAM(DEMS)

But lets see if their base wont turn out for elections like we did last time. NOT NOT NOT

By the time elections roll around they will find someone who has been involve with something illegal and the DRIVE BYS will steer away from all the DEMS problems.

They need to pay their factions.
__The left is unable to pass legislation containing provisions for their base, so they need the earmark process. They can only secure, and maintain power, with a base of well fed factions. Large groups spread out throughout America. that can only survive with government handouts. This is the lefts, passionate, voice of America, and their majority whose passions are fulfilled with a democrat majority. They have been biting the hand that feeds them for years, and it's catching up with them.

I find it ...
I was going to say interesting but infuriating is more apt.

So I find it infuriating that back when teh republicans were runnign congress earmarks and federal spending was such a huge issue but of course now that the dems are in power narry a peep out of anyone about the democrtas wasteful spending.

One of these days I will stop expecting anything honest from the media.

Even though I can't vote for you,
I really appreciate your blog and the straight truth about what's going on back there. I don't care if you do wear a kilt on occasion. I'm sure you have better legs than Hugh Hewitt.

Pelosi treats this job like she's the Queen rather than a public servant. I hope the Dems will find that they've gone out on a limb with the Anti-war Left who will soon saw it off behind them.

I'd love to see a new Contract with America for Republicans. All it would have to say is that they support transparency on spending and will not be buffaloed by enviro-nuts like Al Gore into crippling the economy of this nation.

dims and spending
in spite of the lies sold tyo the public by pelosi and reid that they would clean up the corruption in congress the dims are issuing pork in record amounts. Lib polls indicate the dims have the confidence of the american people in handling the economy. Huh. These various bums and thieves continue to treat the treasury like a private bank acct with no end in sight. And still the dims maintain they can be trusted to run the country and will act fiscally responsibly.

Not Yours to Give
Anyone who wants to read a good piece of history should read David Crockett's story under the above title. It should be the rallying cry for fiscal conservatives.
