This scenario is courtesy of Americans for Tax Reform

This is a tax increase supported by Democrat Barack Obama and all Congressional Democrats, and opposed by Senator John McCain and Americans for Tax Reform.  These taxpayers have a face, and ATR will be showcasing them all week long.

The Davis Family: A Middle Income Family in Middle America

Mike and Susan Davis live in Canton, OH.  They have two children: Tommie is 5, and Christine is 3.  They have a household income of $65,000 (the median amount for a family of four).  They take the standard deduction.  How much are their taxes scheduled to rise?

If the Present Tax Code Remains in Place

The Davis’ will have a federal tax bill of $3000

Under the 2011 Tax

The Davis’ standard deduction is shrunk because of the return of the marriage penalty.

This means that their taxable income goes up.

The tax rate on the first several thousand dollars of their taxable income has grown by 50%.

The child tax credit has been cut in half, so Tommie and Christine don’t help as much.

The Davis’ tax bill will be over $5000—a full $2000 higher than if present law were simply kept in place.

Fair Tax will fix their problem. And mine.

Needs to apply for illegal immigration status. It would seriously reduce their "problem".

So will they vote?
Probably not. Mike and Susan Davis will not consider issues like this. They may think Bush is evil and Barack is a savior. They may be too busy to vote. They may feel a vote for McCain will label them as racists. Who knows.

What I do know is that millions of American have not bothered to register to vote, way more than half of eligible voters will stay home and a very large percentage of Americans will vote based on how they feel the week before the election. They will know nothing about tax policies, associations and voting records. And they will continue to be a constant source of frustration to many.

LOL, remeber the last tax increase?
You know the one that was only on the super wealthy. Like those making 35k per year? Gee which party was in power for that mess? I suspect that if Obama let's the tax cuts expire and with the economy slowing down the house will be Republican in 2 years and the Senate and Whitehouse in 4 years. The fact is he will attack the pocket books of everybody in the country and that is where party loyalty stops and general pissed off begins.

Ignorance is the most expensive thing we have in the USA. Everyday people vote for a party that they would probably not vote for if they knew what the party really stood for or planned to do. It hurts to know that this is true in this day and age. I guess Jimmy Carter 2 will go into the White House. Only good thing is that it will only last 4 years.

So the low income
people the Democrats are "fighting for" are going to get screwed. UM why doesn't someone explain this to them, where they will actually hear about it.

Only 1 in 8 families have a computer.

Vote for "change"
Yes, the lemmings will vote for "change", which, unfortunately is to increase the rate of tax rate increases.

As for the "winning by losing" scenario of "after everything is really, really bad under them Democrats, then we'll get a conservative"
- don't count on it.

Once socialism becomes officially instituted, it generally requires force of arms to remove. Quite unlikely to occur.

There are no Reagans on the horizon, nor anyone who can adequately simulate his role.

And current GOP rules and U.S. election law (McCain-Feingold)serve to prevent the rise of anyone with Reaganesque views.

Advice, anybody?

oil and gas prices
oil hit $147.00 today, how long is congress going to sit back and watch it go up. We can drill till the cows come home that will not do us any good now, stop the speculators like they did the ENRON electricity debauckle. I know that you are for a free market, but as you can see this is not working. All you have to do congressman is stop the speculators and the gas and oil price will be cut in half in 30 days. thx DAVE

Russia,Georgia
Congressman Campbell, how good of a job has Bush been doing by totally being distracted by Iraq from Russia? It seems to me that we have lost our credability in the world with Russia, havnt we? Russia can now do what ever they want because we have no resources to do anything about what they are doing. Now they are going to try and take back the Ukrane, and all the other Democratic countries that we have been helping and what can we do? Remember when he looked into Putins eyes? George sees nothing but business when he looks into there eyes and Putin see advasaries. All the progress that Ronald Regan made is going down the drain. That wall that was torn down is starting to be built again. Oh! and how do you like the good news about the economy? Well got to go, better take another look at how good your Republican President is doing.

tax cuts
Wow! The Bush tax cuts have certainly helped the country, now havn't they?? Have you noticed what kind of shape the country is in lately. Which party wanted the deregulation and John McCain wants further deregulations. We've gone thru this several times and the Republican never learn and the Dems go along with it,so here we are. Greed always wins over and here we are!!! Remember Herbert Hoover???? DAVE
