Yesterday, Mark Kirk (R-IL) took a big step and joined the fight against abusive earmarks.  Rep. Kirk pledged to not request any new earmarks from this point forward.

This is important because Mark Kirk is the first member of the Appropriations Committee to swear off pork.

With the addition of Kirk there are now 23 Members of the House and 6 Senators who have pledged not to accept earmarks.

Let's See How Quickly ...
Let's see how quickly earmarks get renamed. Like "tax" v. "fee."

Will a replica Capitol Mall be built somewhere in WV, before Sen. Byrd is unable to make his X?

Although skeptical, I'm cautiously hopeful.

Sad commentary ..

.. but we start with what we've got.

It is a shame that after considerable effort, Rep. Campbell can count 5.2% of Congresscritters and 6% of Senators who've sworn off or repudiated the earmark practice.

This 'peculiar institution' of Congress is inherently evil, and for some of the same reasons the one we know from history was also evil. The earmark practice comes very close to Taxation Without Represenation, which is an overt enslavement of the citizenry.

Nevertheless, Sen. Coburn, Rep. Campbell and colleagues should be encouraged and complimented on their continuing efforts.

Good Congressman Campbell
If he were good....the Congressman would end the truly biggest Government Tax waste!! End the multi billion dollor..... as in $500,000,000,000 tax joke called the war againt Iraq! This is the biggest tax rip off in the last 100 years! Everything that the "good" Congressman is really talking about(reducing little tax dollars)pales as in... "peanuts" compared to the major big time.... tax waste called the illegal immoral war in Iraq....Fought with the shameful use of torture by the immoral Bush administration. The two biggest tax deficit Presidents in the history of the USA...Bush and Reagan....both REPUBLICANS....in support of "BIGGER GOVERNMENT" THAN EVER IN HISTORY! The good Congressman keeps removing these constituent views from this blog....because he cannost deal with the truth based on THE FACTS!!! And pray tell.... liberals are not too too smart??? Lincoln.... said you can fool.... "the people SOME OF THE TIME"!!! Lets see how the Republicans make out with the November election??? Does the truth hurt????

Earmarks
What a BIG disappointment.... that in my opinion... the Congressman creates a side show by going after about 18 billion in "earmarks"...and does not take a really meaningful stand AGAINST the illegal immoral war in COSTLY TAX WASTE....LOSER WAR..called Iraq...which IF ENDED.... would save us taxpayers BIG TIME...as in $500,000,000,000 and may end up costing 2-3 TRILLION $'S. This is where the wasted tax dollars really are!!! In fact the Republicans are the first first people Bush et al...to finance a war WITHOUT RAISING THE TAXES TO PAY FOR IT!!! So we pass it on to our children's children to pay for the Bush war?? THIS is really partriotic!!! And the Republicans are going to go after the Mickey Mouse tax waste??? Oh! Please spare me!!!!
