Last week the IRS announced that they want you to know that your rebate checks from the economic stimulus plan are almost in the mail.

These notices will go out to roughly 130 million households who filed returns in 2006, at a cost of $42 million.

That is $42 million to tell you that your check is almost in the mail.  One purpose of sending these letters is to encourage people to file a return, so they can get free money from the federal government.  Given the documented potential for fraud in the tax system, this is an invitation for abuse.

Not to mention, I can think of countless ways of spending $42 million, say….paying down the deficit?

After three years of declining deficits, this plan will help increase the deficit, putting us back in the same situation we were in after 9/11.

Note of Appreciation
Dear Mr. Campbell: Your thinking is right and your comments are ‘right-on,’ but is the solution a constitutional amendment? Let’s hope for something BIG like that, because something really BIG and FAST is needed. However, there is a part of me that fears there is no solution, and when you start thinking that way, i.e., that there is no hope, then this eventually effects your ‘real’ quality of life -- your mental and physical health, which in turn effects so many other people and things in your life. Is the new attitude for the day now to be, “Che sara, sara,” and then find some way to numb or distract our brains in the meantime as we go over the cliff like a bunch of lemmings? I wonder how many of us true red, white, and blue, Americans are feeling more and more like frustrated lumpen.

Thank You Mr. Campbell
Please reduce my taxes. One... Impeach Bush for his illegal immoral war against Iraq...Two... put Obama in the White House in November in order to end the Republican war which has wasted over $500,000,000,000+ of American's taxpayers money on this senseless Bush/Republican war. Reduce the larget federal deficit in history and save the taxpayer....vote out ALL the Republican's in November!! This is the best most meaningful way to reduce our taxes!! The Republian fakers talk a good game about high taxes and then we look at the true history and see that Reagan and Bush left us with the biggest deficits in American history!!! What a sorry joke the Republican party is!!!
