Congress has passed no meaningful energy legislation to move us towards lower gas prices and more American energy and now has recessed for a 5 week break. Republicans, including yours truly, wanted to speak more about that on the floor of the House this afternoon. The Pelosi majority took the unusual step of calling for immediate adjournment to prevent these speeches from going forward and turned off the cameras and microphones on the House floor.

It’s one thing to not allow a vote on more energy production. It’s another to not even allow people to speak about it. I and several dozen others are speaking on the House floor right now to a gallery full of cheering people to demand that Speaker Pelosi allow a vote on more American energy production. No TVs. No microphones.

You can turn off the lights, but you cannot silence the will of the American people.

who stands to benefit?
Kimberly- T "Boob" Pickens actually is not "one of the only" beneficiaries of drilling. A simple Google search reveals that he has invested 11 BILLION dollars in wind farm technology in Texas- he obviously has a vested interest in oil staying expensive. As far as I know, he doesn't own ANWR or offshore drilling rights.

Keep up the good work, Congressman! Pelosi is a fool and so are the rest of her band of selfish, narcissistic counterparts. Maybe I missed it, but isn't the point to discuss, disagree, and come to a compromise???? Is this her idea of "saving the planet", her self-proclaimed mission on earth? And Kimberly: please reveal to us YOUR plan for reducing our foreign oil dependency? Can you (or any Demolib) give us the specifics? Wind? Solar? Water wheel? Are you kidding us? Do you think for one minute if any of these technologies were truly viable, not to mention profitable, that we would already have seen the benefit to consumers (and investors)? Today, Obama announces his "steal from the rich and give to all" plan to swipe profits from big oil?? We he do the same thing with electric powered cars are all the rage? Drill
The nonsense about drilling not making a significant difference for years to come if then is such utter and complete hogwash that I am astounded people can say such things and actually believe them. If we have learned nothing it is that even rumors of increased oil supply has a direct effect on prices and the market. We've seen that only recently, but how quick select groups are to dismiss it. Anyone with a grain of common sense should know the role of supply and demand.

Another thing is that we need to drill now where we know oil is. We know there is a supply in a barren section of ANWR and other banned areas (at least banned to us). Drilling should have already been in place years ago when Bush was calling for it, but of course was ignored---and I am not even a fan of Bush.

Pelosi and her thugs are traitors to our nation and to the duties they swore to undertake. While she is out proclaiming she is all about "saving the planet" and touting her new book (and blocking those pesky little things called debate and voting on this vital issue) Americans are still feeling the pinch and dreading the winter to come.

This subject is one I could go on and on about.
Boot these people out come election time, folks; I guarantee we shall regret it if we do not do so.

No right answer, just a better one
There is no perfect solution to the problem at hand, and stopping progress in any form would be detrimental to our economy. If people are out of jobs because all jobs attributed to oil are suddenly gone, we have created a larger problem than what we started with. I am not even going to say I have any answers, but when discussion is blocked, temper tantrums are thrown "we the people" all suffer. To paraphrase Reagan, there are no perfect solutions to hard problems that we face, just better ones. If we cannot even talk to one another, we will not even come to the better solutions if we even come to a solution at all.

I hear a lot of complaining, but no.....
...proposals for future energy independence.
Here's a simple outline....tear it to shreds, but we've gotta start somewhere:
1. At the end of 25 years, the U.S. will no longer purchase foreign oil. You pass that into law and the price drops overnight.
2. Open a window for drilling (with reasonable restrictions for environmental concerns) for 10 years. After that, it stops. (If a case can be made that a 5 year waiver in any one area would produce a substantial benefit, ONE waiver may be granted).
3. During this 10 year period, R & D into viable energy alternatives would be conducted. This would be market driven and the winner would reap the lion's share of the profits (there's that ugly word again lefties), much like the battle between VHS and Beta, the recent Blu-Ray thing, etc. If several forms of energy turn out to be the solution (in different regions for example), so much the better. The idea is to get off oil which is so tied to the economy...
4. Keep the government the hell out of it. The only thing they're good at is adding obstacles and red tape and making things more expensive than they need to be. The people will fix this problem. You pols just....go make a speech or kiss a baby or something.
5. Tape Al Gore's mouth closed...he can be fed intravenously.
OK folks....vet this plan....

If $10.00 a gallon for gasoline (as was established by Senate Dems yesterday) is NOT the time to declare an EMERGENCY & START DRILLING... Then what is?

Rather than try to get them back maybe we should just corner the CEO of Archer-Daniels Midland (the Ethanol Kings) and make ADM empty it's pockets of all those Dems they have in there...

OR we can just WAIT until China, Venezuela & Cuba drill OUR OIL out from under us from the platforms they already have in the Gulf of Mexico.

"...but the facts and the truth behind drilling don't hold up and don't equate to relief at the pump until years from now - if even then."

Sorry Kimbat, you really don't have a clue do you. What facts and what truth? Would that be that the real timeline to being in production and reducing the need for foreign oil isn't 5 to 10 years, it's actually 1-5 years?

By lifting the executive moratorium on offshore drilling, the price of crude has dropped by nearly $24 a barrel, that's a drop of 16% just because of the possibility of drilling and producing more.

How about oil shale in the western slope? Since there are a number of smaller firms that are doing more than exploring, they've perfected the technology to liquify insitu (that means in the ground, Kim, you teenage digit IQ'd twit) and extract the oil now. No 5 to 10 years there, try about 18 months to ramp up into full scale production.

And here's another little tidbit for you, you screeching monkey, since the Alaska Pipeline was constructed and put into production in less than 3 years, how many years do you think it would take to build a jumper to it that's only a few hundred miles long? Try 18 months to two years.

But here's another thought, I know forcing you to think causes drastic migraines, By developing our own resources we aren't shelling out $700 billion dollars a year to support your local neighborhood Wahabist Madrasa.

But then again, I guess keeping American jobs at home, not destroying family's lives, keeping more of our money here, and supporting a more secure America are exactly the things that you oppose and despise. So go screech to the wingnuts over at HuffnPuff and the Daily Kook.

...You have to do better than this.

"There is NO DOUBT that we could do drastically amazing things with the right policies and the right funding in less time than it would take to get your teaspoon of oil after it's been divvied up amongst countries with more spending power than we've got with our pitiful dollar."

We IMPORT 70% of our oil now. So your assertion is the if we open offshore, ANWR, and the western slope, and we are able, in fairly short order, to produce, say - 75%, of the oil that we use, the oil companies are going to sell that oil around the world and then turn around and buy it back? Who's premise is that, or did you think that up all by yourself?

As to the right policies? Billions have been spent on research into wind and solar power, since the oil embargo, in 1973, and the result is that, if the wind isn't blowing wind doesn't work, if it's cloudy, solar doesn't work, and these two sources are not storage friendly, in other words, all the electric power produced is lost if it isn't used. There is no battery technology existent that can store that kind of power generation. This results in the need for a back up system to be on the grid, a fossil/nuclear powered backup, that can't be just shut off and restarted. Ramping up and down is a time consuming and delicate process.

And since all the policies concerning wind/solar and/or other forms of alternative energy have all been written, passed, and funded by the modern democrap party, who's really responsible, Kimbat?

Papered up like this, with multiple discharges ranging from budget legislation to oil legislation (which FINALLY got discharged) liberals would have been shown as obstructing committee legislation and everything else in the house. The increase in the price of oil is not due to a shortage of oil.

By contrast, the increase in the price of gas is due to a shortage of refineries.

When an increase in price is not due to a shortage, increasing supply simply adds more inefficiencies to the economy. It does not drive the price down.

Thus, increasing refineries will reduce gas prices. But increasing oil is not going reduce oil prices.

What you’ve got going on in the oil markets is speculation. Speculation and currency-market shifts have been huge. The weak dollar is particularly troublesome. As the dollar weakens vis-a-vis other currencies, the dollar price of oil goes up regardless of other factors.

What has Bush done about any of these problems? Zip!

The Democrats accuse President Bush of "defying the will of the American people" by winning the Iraq war.

WHO is defying the will of the people now. Who, in fact, is not even allowing a vote on it?
SteveJ1 writes: Friday, August, 01, 2008 8:43 PM

Personally, I don't care if they drill or not. It won't make any difference because we do not have an oil shortage. We have a refinary shortage.

And its not a good idea for Republicans to bring up energy issues since they've got no energy policy.

There is no such thing as "domestic" oil or "United States" oil companies.

Big oil companies are multinationals, with scant loyalty to the interests of any single nation, and scant dependence on the wells of any one nation. The idea that "U.S." companies can somehow solve our problem by producing more U.S. oil – thus saving us from a "dangerous dependence on foreign oil" – does not reflect the realities of the oil business.

He signed an executive order to allow offshore drilling. The oil market responded immediately with a ten-dollar-a-barrel drop. He tried to get the ANWR drilling bill through the Senate. That moron Pelosi (who's saving the planet) and her swinish pet Murtha have refused to allow a vote on drilling because they know that there are plenty of House Democrats who will cross the aisle to vote for what is obviously needed. You mention that the same environmentalists in the Democratic Party have also been blocking refineries for the last 35 years. So why do you support these people? The Republicans have stated that their policy is drilling, nuclear, clean coal AND the windmills, wasteful ethanol subsidies and solar panels that the Dems are pushing. I see that this post is no different than others. Shortly after a psot goes up, there's a liberal waiting with talking points in hand. The TRUTH doesn't seem to matter to you, but for those who are objective, I'll lay out the truth. 1.) Just taking the action to lay out an energy plan that includes drilling will drive down the speculation market on oil thereby reducing the price of gas at the pump. 2.) Drilling for oil will add more oil to the world market. While it's true that due to current regulations (which are WAYYYYY too strict)that it would take roughly 5 years to begin drilling but, anyone who has watched the recent TV show "Black Gold" can tell you that as soon as the companies are allowed to drill you will begin to see crude, within months which will further reduce the price. 3.) None of the energy plans that I have heard calls only for drilling, in fact, all of the plans I have seen call for pouring money into alternative energy research, expanding Nuclear, Wind, Solar, etc. And it's alot easier than inflating your tires and getting regular tune ups. Also, as you can see by the country's reaction to the House Republicans growing stones and standing up to Pelosi's socialist rule, you're losing the battle.

You don't know what you are talking about. "Credible economist"? Are you serious? I do this for a living and I challenge you to find ANYONE other than politicians who dare state that the price of oil is due to "illegal manipulation". It is supply and demand. Demand keeps growing at an accelerating pace while the only reason supply is barely keeping pace is because higher prices bring on more expensive oil.

Here is a simple question: What was the daily oil production from Saudi Arabia in 1982? What is it today?

"Drilling for oil will add more oil to the world market."

That's not how it works.

Whatever multinational company drills for oil in the United States or anywhere else, that company is going to adjust the amount of oil it produces to the optimum supply for its profits.

I don't know of any credible economist who will tell you that the increase in oil is due to a shortage.

Therefore, the multinational company is going to produce the same supply, adjusting all of its wells accordingly.

An oil company adjusts its supply for maximum profits.

If that means increasing or reducing oil, that's what it is going to do.

A shortage occurs when a company is not producing a supply to maximize its profits.

I don't know of any credible economist who claims this is happening. A number of companies could pump more oil if they wanted to.

Thanks Congressman
Congressman Campbell, I applaud you and the other House Republicans for your efforts today. It is unfortunate that your actions are getting buried and or dismissed in the liberal media, but it is my sincere hope that this will not be the last effort on your part.

Regardless of which side anyone stands on this issue, it has been my understanding that a cornerstone of democracy is free speech and the right to vote. After listening to Speaker Pelosi's near constant bluster about misuse of authority, unwillingness to listen to the will of the people and unwillingness to work in a bipartisan manner on the part of our President and the Republican Members of Congress; I am appalled that she would use her authority as Speaker to block several of our most basic freedoms, including freedom of speech, the right to vote, our right to representation and the will of the American people, as expressed by over 78% of the American public. It disgusts me that she would even ignore 51% of the voices in her own state, who have expressed their support for offshore drilling; on the sole basis of her political goals and personal opinions.

Mr. Campbell; I urge you and your fellow member to keep up the good fight past today and not allow your actions to be dismissed as a mere publicity stunt. You have brought credit on yourself today and I hope that we can depend on you to see this issue through in the days and weeks to come.

This summer, much of the American public has had to cancel even the most insignificant vacations they have earned though their hard work in support of themselves and their families each day. Countless American families will not have the opportunity to enjoy even one or two weeks together this year due to this crisis; not to mention the many having increasing difficulty even traveling to the grocery store. It is during times of crisis that we depend on our elected officials to represent our interests; not take vacation away from them.

Take your own economics lesson, Blake
Don't lecture me about economics until you can tell me the following:
1) What is the price per barrel of oil?
2) What is the current cost to refine a barrel of oil?
Economics 101 states that the part with the biggest cost is the one where supply and demand can make a difference. RIGHT NOW it is NOT in refining.

As for what Bush has done, remember that he proposed opening up a closed military base to a refinery operation, and remember the loud THUD with which that hit the air waves.

You also think that the President has that kind of power to make refineries appear? Remember the mantra "The President proposes, Congress disposes". And the Democrats did exactly the kind of legislation stopping in the Senate that we are now doing (I am glad the Republicans at least learned SOMETHING). So knock of using Bush's name, and start using some of those that count. Dennis Hastert and Trent Lott, two of the names who aided and abetted their Democrat colleagues stopping legislation.

Go take your own economics course, and take a government course with it. We DON"T need more Government action; we need them to get their nose out of the tent on what they are doing NOW. The US EPA should be abolished and all duties turned over to the states.

I believe it is time to limit the terms of those in congress but that will never happen as it is like asking the nuts in San Francisco to vote their idiot mayor out. Those in Congress would have to pass the bill and most are too use to the perks and will stay there as long as possible. I invest other people's money for a living and I assure you that global oil reserves are depleting and that even if the oil exists underground, virtually every government on earth (including ours) is denying American oil companies access to it. I took a look last night and this morning in several of the press outlets, there was NO MENTION of this stifling of dissent in the House of Representatives. Another indicator of how deep in the tank the national press is for the left. Nancy "the NAZI" shuts down debate in the middle of speeches so she can go on vacation and the so called "watchdog" press totally ignores it. If I had a watchdog at my home that was so decrepit and ineffective I would take him to the vet and have him "put down". I think that maybe the same solution is needed for the press, they are past their prime and in need of replacement. Unfortunately the new alternative media will most likely face the threat of the misnamed "fairness doctrine" if Speaker Nazi Pelosi gets her way.

1. McCain opposed this and flip flopped just like Obama.

2. The Republicans are a joke when it comes to an energy policy.

3. This whole thing's a farce. Find a credible economist who says there is an oil shortage. The collection of oil comanies in the world will supply oil on a world market that maximizes their profits. That is what they are doing now. They don't want to sell more. There are a lot of companies that can pump more oil right now, but do not becuase we are at the optimum price.

Any multinational company that drills new wells in the United State and elsewhere is going to adjust all of its output and maintain the exact same supply it is providing now.

That's not how it works.

There is not an oil shortage.

Oil is traded on the world market at a supply that optimizes the profits of the oil companies.

If increasing or decreasing supply optimizes their profits, then that is what they will do. There are plenty companies that could increase their output, right now, if they wanted to do so.

Well again, as far as I'm concerned drill away. But let's not pretend it's going to do any good.

In economic terms, China and India have increased demand. They have not put a strain on supply.

A "shortage" exists when a group of companies have an economic incentive to sell more of something but are not able to do so. That is, selling more of the product means that they achieve the optimum price for the product and maximize their profit.

A "shortage" does not exist when a group of companies has no economic incentive to increase supply because they are currently selling the product at the optimum equilibrium price to maximize their profits.

I don't know of any credible economist who claims there is a shortage of oil. There are a number of companies, not just OPEC, who could pump more oil if they wanted to.

With regard to "our own" oil, oil is a world market product. Big oil companies are multinationals, with scant loyalty to the interests of any single nation, and scant dependence on the wells of any one nation. The idea that "U.S." companies can somehow solve our problem by producing more "U.S." oil – thus saving us from a "dangerous dependence on foreign oil" – does not reflect the realities of the oil business.

Any "new" oil is going to be accounted for in the overall world supply. If a company puts the "new" oil on the market, some other activity will take place that decreases oil output somewhere else.
SteveJ1 writes: Saturday, August, 02, 2008 6:18 PM
I Am Sans Pareil
"Regardless of what you think...over 70% of the American People WANT more domestic drilliing and lower prices."

When there is not a "shortage", when a product is already at its equilibrium price, companies do not have an economic incentive to increase supply, and the world oil market will decrease oil output to compensate for any "new" oil.

However, with regard to your poll, that is hard to argue with. If it is a scientific poll, and it stays like that over a couple of weeks, the House and Senate leadership have no excuse for refusing to bring it up for a vote.

But if you really want to talk about someone trying to stonewall "we the people", you can look at Bush's behavior with regard to the ports issue where he tried to do everything he could to block the American people's views.

Call the session today and let's hear what they have to say. Lord only knows we will pay for it anyway. Why not make em work for it I say!!!!!

I do not care if they cry, because I have had to work through many of mine.

Call a special session on energy and oil. There is no sense (of course those opposing do not have this) for not making the threat of the drill.

Get On The Phone Right Now
I would strongly recommend that all of us get on the phone right now and contact our Senators and Congresspersons. Demand that this issue be brought forward for a debate and vote. Tell them that we want them working on this RIGHT NOW. Call them! Call them! Call them! Let's keep up the pressure on these obstructionists in Congress and in the Senate.

Checked Your Tire Pressure Yet?
If you have, you are doing your part in helping to solve our oil prohibition crisis. America thanks you for helping us become energy-independant. Your efforts will benefit America for generations to come; Thank You Senator Obama, for solving our energy problems with your brilliance and supreme intellect!

Recall Pelosi and Reid
I didn't know who or what laws put Pelosi and Reid in control of the House and Senate until I was told in another column that their Democrat constituents voted them in, but it is time for Americans to keep them from stopping all forward movement in this country. They are the reasons for the 9% polling rate that Congress now has. I've been researching the hows/whys of recalling them for some time, and learned that only their constituents in Congress can start the processes. I've been emailing and calling.

If you agree with me, maybe you would be willing to contact your representatives too. Just tell them to recall these power-mad idiots or you will vote Republican in all elections. That might get their attention. It is time we stopped paying terrorists for oil and became independent by drilling our own wells.

As far as our automobile manufacturers going bankrupt--it is their own fault for refusing to do the research on alternative sources of power and start making our own type of Prius.

I have no sympathy either for people who bought homes they knew they couldn't afford or who continue to live above their means and then expect the government to bail them out.

I am a Republican and lost a lot of respect for Pres. Bush and McCain when he supported the failed Immigration "Amnesty" bill, and also because he has refused to Pardon the unlawfully convicted Border Agents Ramos and Compean. I also don't like to see him getting wishy-washy with Democrats just to get more Bills passed. However, I agreed with him on his 9/11 stance and still think he was correct, though he should have listened to the Officers in the field instead of politicians from the beginning.

One thing I feel really urgently is a sense of doom that our beloved U.S. will become another Socialist dictatorship under Obama.

Two fold approach.
The statement that relief at the pump will be years away is a statement of truth from our liberal friends in congress, but it is neither the whole truth nor nothing but the truth. Yes, it will take years, not as many as they want to believe, but years to get some new US oil to market. That will be our future relief at the pump. Our immediate relief will be in the oil markets. If investors see that the United States is moving to extract their own natural resources then it will affect the price of oil in the short term. More supply centered around the area that consumes the most oil will certainly affect prices. And if exploration turns up additional oil fields the it will drive down the price even further. US oil will also decrease the cost of moving the oil around... its already here! This is why my grandmother told me not to listen to everything I hear and think for myself. Call the Congress back Mr. President. Tell Ms. Pelosi to do the job the people elected her to do.

Elected Republicans!
Everyone of them needs to know this is EXACTLY the kind of thing we want from our representatives.

This is the kind of politics we can actually get behind.

AWESOME!

Great work and keep it up!

Ha...
Lights went out on Pelosi a long time ago.

Chicken Obama
It has a lemon sauce, nice and yellow.

Obama is afraid of McCain, hence the reason he will not debate him in a townhall (even though Obama said anyplace, any time, he would take on McCain).

As poster "David" so elequently stated here previously:

Brave Obama ran away.
Bravely ran away, away!
When danger reared its ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled.
Yes, brave Obama turned about
And gallantly he chickened out.
Bravely taking to his feet
He beat a very brave retreat,
Bravest of the brave, Sir Obama!

"Brave" Obama ran away...
http://scaredmonkeys.com/2008/08/03/barack-obama-chickens-o ut-of-town-hall-debates-against-john-mccain-what-happened-t o-debate-mccain-any-where-any-time/

Bravely bold Sir Obama
Rode forth from Illinois.
He was not afraid to die,
Oh brave Sir Obama.
He was not at all afraid
To be attacked in nasty ways.
Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Obama.

He was not in the least bit scared
To be called a Muslim.
Or a leftist too,
And a celebrity.
And Britney too.
To be called a Paris Hilton type,
Clearly a racist sterotype
Brave Sir Obama.

And Rove sent men to aide McCain
They called Barack chicken
And yellow
And scared
And then Obama cried its foul
And ran around like barnyard fowl

"That's... that's enough debate talk for now lads,
*** there's dirty "cynical" work afoot*** ???."

Brave Sir Obama ran away.
("No!")
Bravely ran away away.
("I didn't!")
When campaign danger reared it's ugly head,
Obama bravely turned his tail and fled.
("no!")
Yes, brave Sir Obama turned about
("I didn't!")
And gallantly he chickened out.

****Bravely**** taking ("I never did!") to his feet, Obama beat a very brave retreat.
("all lies!")
Bravest of the braaaave, Sir Obama!
("I never!")

WAAAAA
I recall this same situation that LIBS pushed to get elected in 06, remember this comment ,\

IF we had STEM CELL research we could have saved people like MICHAEL J. FOX and REEVES. VICTIMS, VICTIMS, VICTIMS and thats how the LIBS play

Where are these people at now, I know the LIBS didnt do squat with that big fiasco. The problem I see with LIBS is you try to live for the MOMENT and then when its gone you blame someone else for your FAILURES as usual.

This BIG oil thing put against REPS is a joke for everyone in CONGRESS owns stocks in BIG OIL.

Just like 80% of them own stock in HALLIBURTON , you know the company that LIBS hated so much at election time that after the elections we found out that 80% of Congress owned stocks in it.

IT IS ALL A GAME, LIBS are just better at lying to the People than REPS are and not feeling any PAIN while doing it.

We also know that the POTUS in this country can come out and tell the people all these things they will do for us, but we all know by now that CONGRESS controls this COUNTRY not the POTUS.

So when it comes down to it LIBS just dont care about the People they only care about the one and o0nly thing , POWER and MORE POWER.

I recall LIBS on the styeps of Congress every day when REPS were in charge and crying to the American people that REPS wont let them play, so I guess its time for REPS to do the same. What a crock to mislead Americans just for POWER.

Im ashame to be an American and watch how our elected Officials act. God help this country because POLITICIANS want and never will.

WE ARE NOT GOING TO LET LIBS AND THEIR ENVIRO BUDDIES TAKE US BACK TO THE STONE AGE.

To Bad
To bad it took you Repubs so long to grow some balls.

To bad you do not know how to be the party in charge.

To bad you had 8 years of control and did nothing on energy.

To bad you lost your conservative base.

To bad you spent money while in power like drunken sailors (no offense to drunken sailors).

You ALL deserve to be thrown out!!!

We got a Ronald, because we had a Jimmy.

To hell with all of you self centered elitist cowards.

The reason the oil companies are not drilling on the acres under lease is that they are dry and do not have any oil to produce.

Science over emotion.
