When spending season rolls around on Capitol Hill, Americans cringe, and for good reason. But this season something is different. Yesterday evening when Congress began debate on its spending bills, it was brought to a screeching halt at the first sign of a Republican amendment, 30 minutes in.

It has been a long standing tradition that the spending bills that Congress considers are done using what is called an ‘open rule’ which allows for an unlimited amount of amendments to the bill, but the cabal led by Speaker Pelosi, President Obama, and Senator Reid has squelched the voice of opposition once again. Instead, they have decided to limit the number of Republican amendments, breaking with the open-rule precedent for the first time in as long as anyone can recall.

We’ve seen it in the automotive industry in the abrogation of dealer contracts and moving Americans out of cars, and now we are seeing it in how Congress spends the money of the American people. This is just further indication that if Obama, Pelosi, and Reid can’t coerce you into doing what they want, then they will force it upon you. They are trying to control much of our lives and now they want to silence opposing views.

With this move, Democrats will now be able to spend even more taxpayer money without interference. House Republicans are meeting today on how to fight this, to be sure though, there is a resistance brewing.

There you go Frank
Blindly goose step behind your tax and spend heros but don't complain when the bill comes to pay for it ok? It is a matter of modern historical record how pathetically impotent the federal government is when trying to efficiently handle money or provide for the individual's needs. This time will be no different. Prior to about 1913 there was no federal income tax yet this country grew expotentially AND maintained a standing armed forces. Today we have lawmakers bent on apending money like drunken sailors, and that includes Bush. Facts are indisputable that all this spending has to come from somewhere and that somewhere is YOU and I. So down the road when the government FAILS you and your family miserably as it's done in the past with welfare and social security, before you open your mouth to complain, remember you supported this type of wreckless behavior in Washington. What truly amazes me is that so many people are willing to surrender some of their freedom for a free ride thru life. Your ability to choose the life you want for yourself and your buying power are two very important freedoms. With Obama and his policies you are surrendering both in exchange for a free ride that isn't free. Benjamin Franklin once said "Any man willing to surrender liberty for security deserves neither".

Tradition
"It has been a long standing tradition that the spending bills that Congress considers are done using what is called an ‘open rule’ which allows for an unlimited amount of amendments to the bill"

I'm not defending the Democrats, but that "long-standing tradition" ended when the Republicans took over Congress in 2004. Pot, meet kettle.

What the government has done right
Let's see, there was that whole moon thing. Pretty good, most of the research and construction was outsourced but, give them kudos for driving it. Haven't really done anything since, but, hey, times are different. WW2, pretty good, big motivation when evil empires attack your people. Korea, Vietnam, stuff since, eh, not so good, that postmodernist theory driving everything. Welfare? Please. Social Security and Medicaid? More than please. Education? Oh, come on.

So, Marxists, tell me what it is about that track record that so convinces you giving the government even more money and authority is a wise thing?

Well, I'm not a Marxist, so I can't help you there, but remember when the government bailed out the savings and loans in the late 80s? We the taxpayers MADE MONEY on that deal. Turned a profit.

Google "Veterans Administration health care quality study" and you'll see that one of the highest-rated health care systems in the country is run by . . . . government bureaucrats.

Back in the sixties, Bethesda, Maryland was a quiet little suburb of Washington, mostly modest homes and a few streetcar tracks. Today it's all high-rises and bustling with business. What happened? The D.C. Metro opened a station right in the middle. Paid for with tax dollars. A lot of people have made a lot of money on real estate in Bethesda, and I'll bet a lot of them even buy into the silly idea that "government can't create wealth."

to think that all this Demowit behavior will stop them squealing like sissies in the future about bullying, steamrolling BAD Repubs. But, of course, it won't.

Listen up, Obamster & his Demosheep: "Y'all go on down thar, Gen'rul Custer...Yessirree, them's thousands of Sioux & Cheyenne warriors, Gen'rul, and when they git through with y'all, thar ain't gonna be nuthin' left but a greasy spot..So, y'all go on down thar, Gen'rul."

And just like that....
Frank:"I have no problem with the Goverment, republican or democrat, raising taxes and they can raise mine first if they want to set a good example."

Just like that, Frank proves beyone ALL DOUBT that he is a good little sheep ready for slaughter.

Oh really?????

The Savings and Loan Fiasco was the largest banking failure in United States history; even larger than the banking failures during the Great Depression. (Madura, 583)(Figure 1) Over 1000 savings and loans failed, resulting in the bankruptcy of the Federal Saving and Loan Insurance Corporation (FSLIC) and a loss of over $150 billion, of which over $120 billion was covered by the U.S. taxpayers.
Exeye writes: Wednesday, June, 17, 2009 2:29 PM
Actually...
From Wikipedia on the S and L Bailout "The U.S. government ultimately appropriated 105 billion dollars to resolve the crisis. After banks repaid loans through various procedures, there was a net loss to taxpayers of approximately $124 billion dollars by the end of 1999.[16] ^ Timothy Curry and Lynn Shibut, The Cost of the Savings and Loan Crisis: Truth and Consequences FDIC, December 2000."

VA'ers, like me, like what we get for our money (yes, we do pay for it, but it's not that much in comparison to others). But, expand that system out to include 150 million more people, and one wonders.

Ah, so a rapacious and ever expanding government uses its resources to benefit its employees by making the trip to the office easier. People are displaced and real esate moguls, lawyers, lobbyists, government contractors and the other ruling elite make money off the windfall. Paid, of course, by tax money taken from the persons in the rest of the country. 'Course the teachers, policemen, carpenters and others servicing the ruling elite have to live in less than pristine locations further away 'cause they can't afford Bethesda. Like they used to. But, they're peasants so who cares?

Correction
I stand corrected on the S&L bailout, but not all government bailouts have been net losses for taxpayers: http://www.propublica.org/special/bailout-aftermaths

Huh? Is that what you think public transportation is? A perk for the elites?

Developers and real estate brokers pay real money, not taxpayer money, just like you and I do when we build/buy a house.
